Essay Can the media exploit your perception of reality? While most people would like to say that they have a solid mind and aren’t easily deceived, the truth is that the media’s mass exploitation of the human mind is comes easier and more common than people think. Media exploitation is when people use the media to manipulate information to appeal to a specific audience, which in turn furthers their own agenda’s, whether it be political, social, or economical. While the media exploiting the public has been an issue for a long time, fake news in the election has led to more and more people trying to exploit the media in many different ways; In order to combat this exploitation, companies such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter, need to step†¦show more content†¦Fox News broadcasted conspiracies that Seth Rich, was the mastermind behind recent leaks of DNC documents and, his murder was orchestrated by the DNC as a sort of revenge; These conspiracy theories were lat er debunked and proven untrue however, the network received little to no repercussions. This business plan worked incredible well for Fox and, they ended up beating CNN in ratings so, CNN, in order to get their viewers back, tried to mimic Fox News’ business plan. CNN ended up replacing their old hosts with new â€Å"celebrity† hosts such as, Anderson Cooper, who would give more opinion based analysis’. The network also started airing more stories that would appeal to more of a liberal viewer base; CNN was particularly biased during the 2016 Presidential Election, where CNN spent much of their air time criticizing and condemning the then presidential candidate, Donald Trump. This ended up backfiring for CNN as it helped give, Donald Trump, an estimated $2 billion dollars in free advertising which quickly made him the most popular and, well known presidential candidate. Fox News and CNN are an example of biased manipulation from the media however their one-sidedn ess isn’t the only issue that faces us, there is also the issue of fake news.
